Fuerteventura, or “Strong Winds” in Kings English, sits in the Atlantic just 15km from Lanzarote through the Strait of Bocaina. With such a small distance, you would assume the islands to be similar, but you could not be farther from the truth.

It may be the neighbour of Lanzarote, but in terms of the island’s landscape, they couldn’t be more different. Fuerteventura is known for its’ pristine white sand beaches and warm winds all year round. With over 150 beaches, the island is a paradise for beach lovers. Perfect for that romantic Adult Only holiday you have promised yourself and your partner.

Boasting a landscape including beaches, volcanoes and a desert, Fuerteventura feels wilder and more isolated than the larger islands. The variety of landscapes makes for a great Adult Only holiday. Whether you enjoy sunbathing, exploring or water sports, Fuerteventura is the island for you.

Fuerteventura feels rugged and more desolate than islands such as Tenerife or Gran Canaria, so if you’re looking for a far-flung volcanic or beach escape, this is the perfect destination.

With easy links from the UK, there is no excuse to put off that holiday any longer. To help, we have compiled the definitive list of Adult Only hotels for you to drool and dream over.

What is an Adult-Only Hotel?

The Adult Only tag has differing opinions on what is included and what services are offered. The hotels generally do not allow minors under 18 to access the hotel, although some do let in teens over 16 years of age, so check before you book.

There is also a misconception that Adult Only also means couples only. This myth is entirely false, and many single adults enjoy holidaying with people with similar tastes without children around. And it is an excellent opportunity to make new friends.

Key Benefits of Adult-Only Hotels

Adult Only hotels tend to be at the luxury end of the market as the clientele enjoy being spoiled by the finer things life offers when holidaying. The hotels often have fantastic dining and entertainment options, so you rarely need to leave the stunning surroundings of your chosen hotel or resort.

Many Adult Only hotels offer Spa services and “Experiences”. Experiences range from champers and chocolates on arrival to lavish speciality dinners cooked by private chefs. These hotels know their clients and are aware that making memories is paramount.

Activities are always well designed for the age range of the guests and vary from gentle walks on the beach to high-octane watersports. It is your holiday, and you can enjoy it however you want!

This standard of hotel prides itself on its restaurant capabilities. Many have internationally renowned chefs, and some even have Michelin awards. With no kids to cater for, the menus are always exciting and use local fresh produce to produce the highest quality gastronomic experiences.

A modern phrase used by hardworking Adults is to detach or disengage from daily life. What better way to charge those run-down batteries than sunshine, fabulous beaches and a top-quality child-free hotel in peaceful surroundings in stunning Fuerteventura?

It is located on the beachfront at Caleta de Fuste. This hotel is part of the Barceló Fuerteventura Beach Resort, a four-hotel resort providing 1st class service and premium benefits for their Royal Level guests.

As expected, the outside space is stunning, with an Adult only pool surrounded by loungers and shady palms. There are beautiful gardens all around the property for a romantic stroll.

At the hotel, the rooms are fitted with a balcony and a 55” TV. The two bedrooms suite also has a sofa bed to accommodate more guests or friends.

3

Barcelo Corralejo Bay

[modula id=”3349″]

Location: Corralejo | Guest Rating: 4.5/5 | Star Rating: 4* | Best Room: Suite Deluxe with outdoor hot tub | Restaurants: 2 | Pools: 3 | Spa Services: Yes

The hotel Barcelo Corralejo Bay is a fantastic choice for travellers to explore the maritime town of Corralejo.

The Port of Corralejo is only a short walk away. You can enjoy the seafaring atmosphere and catch a ferry to Lanzarote to explore the Canaries even further.

The 241 rooms come very well equipped, with all rooms having access to a balcony or terrace. The Suites Deluxe also have terraces and outdoor hot tubs for relaxing those stresses away. Both suite styles have a sofa bed so that the rooms can accommodate three guests. The hotel provides full-room service to all guests.

The vast pool has plenty of sun loungers and provides soft fluffy towels to enjoy the peaceful tropical surroundings whilst having a dip. There is a poolside bar and restaurant where you can take breakfast and enjoy a selection of gourmet foods at lunchtime.

The main restaurant provides a buffet selection in the evenings and a table service for drinks.

Note that men must wear long trousers in the evening whilst dining, and ladies must have formal attire. I’m not sure what that phrase means anymore, and it does seem somewhat overbearing for what is essentially a buffet.

Entertainment is provided near the pool in the afternoon and the main bar during the evenings.

This adult-only hotel is fully adapted for guests with disabilities. Still, it is always best to contact a hotel first to ensure they can meet your particular needs and avoid disappointment.

Activities are plentiful, with captivating outlets like painting, aquafit and Latin dancing. Although the movements tend to be aimed at the hotel’s prominent older clientele, they can be booked using the hotel’s unique phone app.

4

Occidental Jandia Royal Level

[modula id=”3479″]

Location: Pajara |Guest Rating: 4.5/5 |Star Rating: 4* |Best Room: Master Suite Deluxe |Restaurants: 2 |Pools: 2 |Spa Services: Yes

Overlooking Jandía, one of the best beaches in the whole canary islands is the Occidental Jandía Playa.

When you choose the “Royal” level, you get two hotels for the price of one. Because you also get to use all the guest facilities at the Occidental Jandia Mar as well. But for this guide, we will concentrate on the hotel you would stay in.

The external spaces are vast, with two pools heated to 23º year round and stunning landscaped areas for relaxing on sunbeds by the pool.

All rooms have balconies, but the Deluxe basic rooms do not have sea views. At least the balconies are a good size at 6m2.

The Deluxe Master Suite is the top room in the hotel and is 100m2, which is the size of a three-bedroom Spanish apartment. These luxurious rooms have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a Jacuzzi bath.

The hotel has two restaurants, the Atlántico Restaurant and the Corralejo; both are buffet-style. You can eat at either for Breakfast, lunch and buffet dinner. Five times a week, there is a traditional menu from a specific region, Italian, Asian, Indian, Tex-Mex and, of course, Spanish. Please note that formal dress is required for dinner. If you fancy enjoying an evening on your terrace, the hotel offers full room service for guests.

There are two main bars at the Jandía Playa, the Atlantic Club Bar and the Green Bar. The Green bar has live music from talented musicians such as harpists and saxophonists. But watch out for the massive size of the spirit measures; the bar staff are known to do long pours!

The Sanagua Spa and Wellness centre facilities are included in the “Royal” package and have a superbly designed area for relaxation and will leave you feeling fully rejuvenated.

Nearby you have Jandía’s Ventura Shopping Centre, about a 10 minutes walk, with shops, bars and restaurants.

And if you fancy being the next “Great White Shark”, you can practice at one of the Islands’ best golf courses, less than a kilometre away.

5

Elba Palace Golf & Vital Hotel

[modula id=”3381″]

Location: Caleta de Fuste |Guest Rating: 4.5/5 |Star Rating: 5* |Best Room: Penthouse Suite with golf view |Restaurants: 2 |Pools: 1 |Spa Services: Yes

It isn’t easy to know where to start with this enigma. A 5* hotel, the official clubhouse of Fuerteventura Golf Club, a private 18-hole golf course and fine dining are all decorated in a stunning colonial style. And to add to the picture, this hotel is a member of Great Hotels of the World, IAGTO and PGA. Making it a unique meeting place for well-heeled clients.
This hotel oozes old-world charm and luxury and certainly doesn’t disappoint. But this hotel is not just about golf, although it is heavily influenced by it.

The stunning location dominates the outdoor space among the pristine green 18-hole golf course and a pool area with Balinese beds to recline upon.

The rooms start at the lower end with a standard double room with everything expected of a 5* hotel. The jewel in the crown is the Penthouse with Golf views as this great room comes with a living room, a huge private terrace and views of the golf action and sea. And if that is not enough, this room also has the addition of a second room, accessed via the terrace, which guests can book separately.

For pre or post-dinner drinks, you can enjoy the elegant Salon Bar while enjoying performances, shows and live music in the evening.

On to the gastronomy, this hotel doesn’t let up one ounce, with two restaurants providing an outstanding array of Canarian dishes, Chef specials and themed dinners. Be aware that the restaurants have a strict dress code, especially after 6:30 pm. Maybe time to dust off that tuxedo, Mr Bond. For more informal dining Café Hoyo 19 provides lighter snacks, tapas and stunning views. And to wash it all down, choose from one of the 300 wine options in the hotel’s cellar or finish off with one of over 1000 brandies available!

Time to work off the fantastic food and drink. Golf. Yes, they have a 72 par 18-hole course, a 50-person driving range, a huge putting green and a chipping green to practice your shots. The Pro Shop allows you to hire clubs, take classes and join year-round tournaments.

For those who golf is not life, the hotel has a full gym, sauna, solarium and Jacuzzi. The on-site personal trainer supervises yoga, Tai Chi, fitness, aquagym and Pilates sessions.

The Wellness centre serves up massages and beauty treatments focusing on local aloe vera products.

Innside By Melia Fuerteventura

[modula id=”3402″]

Location: Costa Calma |Guest Rating: 4.5/5 |Star Rating: 4* |Best Room: The Beach House |Restaurants: 2 |Pools: 1 |Spa Services: Yes

This hugely popular hotel is the only one on the lagoon’s shores at Sotavento Beach, making it unique for that alone. Also, you are only a short walk from the dunes and incredible landscape of Jandía National Park. The ethos of your stay will be to relax and recharge with organic foods and wellness at the forefront of your holiday.

Accommodation starts with the Innside room, which provides very comfortable accommodation but is without sea views. The premium room is the large room known as the Beach house. This room is the size of a Spanish apartment, 70m2, and comes with a separate lounge area, dressing area and two large terraces. This room has the benefit of the minibar being restocked daily included in the price. Note, though, that for some reason, there are no tea and coffee-making facilities in the lower-end rooms, a massive omission, in my opinion.

The hotel boasts an infinity pool with great views of the sea and the natural lagoon that rises with the tide. Sunloungers surround the pool, although a regular comment is that there are insufficient for the number of guests. Maybe you could try one of the poolside hammocks instead.

There are two restaurants in the hotel. The main restaurant, “The Kitchen”, is buffet style but prides itself on delivering only the healthiest Mediterranean and international dishes with some local specialities. The plates are made with local organic produce and have a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options. You can detox with local fruits, vegetables, salads, and only the highest quality organic meats and fish.

The alternative is the Shack Chiringuito which is poolside. You can choose À la carte from a menu of grilled BBQ European and international dishes.

Entertainment is based around the Shack Chiringuito with live acoustic music and guest DJ sessions.

A gym and fitness centre is on-site, and massage cabins are available for holistic treatments to assist with that detox and system reboot. Yoga, pilates and tai-chi sessions are held regularly.

H10 Ocean Dreams

[modula id=”3408″]

Location: Corralejo |Guest Rating: 4.5/5 |Star Rating: 4* |Best Room: Junior Suite |Restaurants: 2 |Pools: 1 |Spa Services: Yes

This boutique Adult Only hotel is just over 500 metres from the white sands of La Goleta beach. And everything the cute town of Corralejo offers is a short walk away.

The outdoor space includes a dynamic heated seawater pool with aqua massage beds, water jets and a counter-current swimming effect. There are plenty of sun loungers and a Solarium with Balinese beds for your relaxation by the pool.

The room choices begin with a double room, which is acceptable although small at the industry standard of about 28m2. The Junior suites are the hotel’s premium offering and come with extra long beds and free access to the Despacio Thalasso Centre for the duration of your stay. Lower-end rooms have a garden view, whilst the others have sea views.

Food is served from two places within the hotel. The “Restaurant Citrus” is an A la Carte dining experience serving contemporary cuisine from local fresh ingredients. Desserts are served in a buffet format, and you can eat inside or on the lovely outdoor terrace. The “Tragaluz Bar Terrace” is a poolside bar and serves à la carte snacks and light meals. Keep an eye out for a cocktail hour; it is something not to miss.

Drinks are available in the lobby bar, where live music is played in the evening to accompany a nightcap or two.

One of the main attractions of this hotel is the Despacio Thalasso Centre. This bespoke wellness centre offers every type of treatment known to men and women. Along with chromotherapy, Turkish baths, saunas and a gym, they offer a staggering array of therapies.

Their wellness professionals deliver exceptional quality massages from around the globe, hot stones, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy and Body enhancing beauty treatments. They offer treatments for hands and feet, hair, Caribbean braids, waxing and makeup to leave you looking more beautiful than ever.

Hotel Boutique La Marquesina

[modula id=”3421″]

Location: Corralejo |Guest Rating: 4.5/5 |Star Rating: 4* |Best Room: Queen Room |Restaurants: 1 |Pools: 2 |Spa Services: No

At only 2 minute walk from Corralejo Beach, The Hotel Boutique La Marquesina is perfectly placed for a relaxing holiday. With nearby Corralejo Viejo and Las Clavellinas, you are spoiled for beautiful beaches nearby. Located on the beachfront, the hotel has panoramic views of Isla de Lobos and Lanzarote.

The outside space is based around the rooftop terrace. The terrace has an infinity pool that is heated to 28º year round and with possibly the best view in Fuerteventura. There is also a small plunge pool. Guests can order drinks from the downstairs bar by calling the telephone on the terrace connected to the bar.

The 18 Queen rooms in this new Adult Only hotel are all decorated with a calm nautical colour scheme, and they all come with a balcony and sea views. The hotel caters for those with disabilities and has rooms specially adapted and two lifts for ease of access.

This hotel has a couple of unique features. One is that it is pet friendly. That information is probably useless if you fly in from the UK, but you never know.

Of more interest is that UK TV channels are available, including BBC and ITV. So you can still keep up to date with your favourite soaps whilst away, and full UK TV is an absolute rarity in Spanish hotels.

Food is served in the Barracuda bar, where you can get a full English breakfast or traditional Spanish toast and tomato, amongst other offerings. Guests can also order breakfast choices for eating in their room, which is a great luxury touch for a small hotel. The restaurant in the evening has a great range of local dishes, especially locally caught fish.

Be aware, though, that the hotel’s central location means there will be music playing nearby until late in the evenings. This noise could be a problem for very light sleepers, although it mostly ends around 11 pm.

9

Hotel Vacanzy Urban Boutique

[modula id=”3463″]

Location: Corralejo |Guest Rating: 4.0/5 |Star Rating: 2* |Best Room: Deluxe Double room |Restaurants: 0 |Pools: 0 |Spa Services: No

Not everyone is looking for a Spa style, 5-star luxury Adult only stay. This may be because they are more free spirited and want the opportunity to make their holiday their way, or it could be budget driven.

Either way, there is demand for a new style of Adult only accommodation, and the Hotel Vacanzy Urban Boutique is a fine example. Located only 400 m from Charco de Bristol Beach and 550 m from Corralejo Viejo Beach, you are in the centre of everything.

This hotel has a unique feel and ambience. On the roof terrace are two Jacuzzis with sea views, sunbeds and Balinese beds to unwind on.

There are beautiful inner atrium spaces with stunning wood, tropical plants and even a waterfall—perfect spaces for relaxing, sipping a drink, reading a book, or interacting with other guests.

Each of the 12 rooms has a small kitchen suitable for breakfast or a light meal. The kitchen includes a proper-sized under-counter fridge, so there is plenty of room for those Local Dorada beers or a few bottles of wine. The rooms are superbly decorated with liberal use of wood mimicking the seaside, a large bed and funky modern art. All rooms have balconies, but you need to head to the roof terrace for good views.

Near the reception desk is a workspace with a computer and printing facilities. The building has an incredible 1Tb Ultra Fast internet connection, which is ideal for remote working.

Suppose you fancy eating out or enjoying Fuertaventurian nightlife. In that case, you are only a short walk away from everything, making this a fabulous “hybrid” style Adult Only hotel.

10

Hotel Ereza Mar

[modula id=”3392″]

Location: Caleta de Fuste |Guest Rating: 4.0/5 |Star Rating: 4* |Best Room: Junior Suite with sea view |Restaurants: 3 |Pools: 2 |Spa Services: Yes

This hotel opened in 2018 and, with 157 rooms, is perfectly positioned to enjoy a beach holiday. It is a favourite with guests due to the proximity, just 350m, to Caleta de Fuste beach. At the same time, the hotel provides relaxation and a touch of Canarian charm.

The hotel doesn’t have a very imposing frontage, but that belies what is inside. The location is right on the seafront, and the décor uses a turquoise accent throughout, from the roof tiles to furnishings and towels, which contrasts with the gleaming white used elsewhere.

The rooms start with double or singles with garden views, no sea views. The top rooms are the junior suites, which can sleep three and have a separate lounge with a sofa bed and a kitchenette area.

There are two pools, one within the courtyard-style terrace and an infinity pool with incredible sea views. The Chill out area is furnished with Jacuzzis, and there is a solarium, sauna, game area and gym for other fun and entertainment.

There are two restaurants at Hotel Ereza Mar. A buffet of traditional dishes at lunch and in the evening and a breakfast buffet every morning. Although guests have mixed reviews regarding the food offerings from the buffet. I guess you can’t please all the people all the time.

The A La carte restaurant, Mar Dorado, serves high-quality European cuisine using only the best local produce. The Pool bar also offers snacks, such as pizza and hot dogs, for when you have the munchies!

The complex has 3 bars, all very well-priced, and the cocktails are very popular, but the bar closes at 11 pm. Someone needs to tell them this is not the UK in 1970. There are plenty of bars nearby if you want to stay in the party mood. The entertainment, and I use the term loosely, revolves around bingo and karaoke. Great if that is your thing, or purgatory if not.

The Essence spa is a welcome addition to the facilities, and well-being massages are available at very reasonable rates.

One tip. Take some monkey nuts if you walk along the seafront promenade. You can feed the tame chipmunks that reside there, descendants of a pair of pets who escaped in 1965.

Final Word

Everyone deserves a break to unwind and relax; for some people, children in the vicinity won’t cut the mustard. The Adult Only hotel industry continues to grow, and there are now budget-orientated hotels designed for the purpose as well as the well-known large multi-purpose resorts.
